Monthly Sum-Up | December 2015 | SBB ☕︎

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !
It's that time of the month again where I give you a brief sum-up of what I read during the month, give you an approximate rating and tell you if you should read it, or avoid. This month was very intense, with the holidays I got more time to read, but I was also under a lot of pressure to complete my 2015 Reading Challenge (which I did ! Horray for me!!). This month was also full of surprises, the books I was most excited to read were the most dissapointing ones, but I did find some really good books in the midst of all these books. I did I more thorough reviews on both Lev and Rikki :  Just check my "Book Reviews" in Caterogies in the top tab. Hope you guys are enjoying the holidays !! xx

Book Review - Rikki | FGR ☕︎

Rikki  by Abigail Strom

Summary
Ever since junior high and an ill-fated game of seven minutes in heaven, Rikki Eisendrath and Sam Payne have hated each others’ guts. But when they end up at the same college—and the same dorm—they figure it’s time to declare a truce.

They even become friends… sort of. But when Sam asks Rikki to model for his sculpting project, they start spending more time together—and her feelings for him get more complicated.

She tries to focus on the guy she’s been crushing on instead. But Sam’s the one she can’t stop thinking about, even though their arguments are starting to heat up as much as the chemistry between them.

My review

I don't even know where to start at with this book, mainly because it's been a month or so since I finished it and I don't have all the details I wish I had in mind to write a "good" review, but also because I like it so much I don't know where to start, honestly just look at my rating !

I don't like comparing books to one another, but this is what Last Best Kiss would have looked like if it had been a good book. This book also made me think a lot of Anna and the French Kiss, and usually, if a book reminds me too much of another it bother me a lot. However here, not only did it remind me of 2 books (one I LOOOOVED and another one I didn't), but I liked it !!

I'll be honest with you, the only reason I loved this book is because from the start you can tell Sam is into Rikki, whether they're in junior high or in college, it's like you can see his feelings for her just floating around. Weird way of putting it, I know.

As for Rikki, I liked her, most of the time. I did not understand her need to go after that guy she had a crush on, even after she realised he was a total douche. Actually, she announced her crush on him after exchanging barely 2 words. Also, I didn't like that she had to fake being interested in some subjects just so she'd have something to tell him. I'm pretty sure Sam would agree on that with me. Now, about Rikki/Sam's relationship, it's fine. I like how the author portrayed it. It feels genuine, not rushed, not like they were hating each other one day and making out the other. It was a gradual process, and I liked that. That aspect of their relationship is probably what made me think of Anna and the French Kiss. Another thing I liked about Rikki was that when she realized she was attracted to Sam (at least physically) she did not try to fight it or deny it to herself, she tried to see how he felt about her. Even if she wasn't very subtle about it ....

I'm giving this book a 4,75/5 because it was amazing, a bit cruel for Sam at times, a little cruel for Rikki at others. In all, this is how real relationships work: developing gradually and based on friendship. This review was really hard for me to write. Just like for every other book I really like, indeed, it's a lot easier to criticize a book you didn't like than to try to explain why you loved some other one.

Book Review - Lev | FGR ☕︎

Lev  by Belle Aurora

.Summary
From the moment Lev Leokov spots the young woman hiding behind her hair in the middle of the gentleman's club, he can't take his eyes off of her. For the very first time in his life, he is affected. Having been told his entire life that he can't process or understand emotion, he considers it a big deal.

When Mina Harris gets caught red-handed with a wallet that isn't hers, she falls apart. She's tired, lonely and hasn't eaten in days.

Lev offers her an ultimatum... A nice warm bed, a hot meal and a job, or the cops.
Mina takes her chances with Lev. After all, a person with nothing has nothing left to lose.

My review
So, this book was the type of book that didn't stay long on my to-be-read list, which usually is a good sign: I find the book, I think it sounds super interesting, I immediately read it, and I love it. You could say it went that way this time too - I mean, I liked the book - I just think it lacked ... something. I don't really know what, it just did.

The plot is super interesting, the main character's background was what draw me in the most. I mean, a homeless girl gets caught by hot rich guy stealing his brother's wallet in order to buy herself some food, can it get any better? Well yes, it can, but unfortunately it didn't.

I liked the book, however I found it very flawed. Expect for the female main character, whose decisions were sometimes kind of hard for me to understand, all the other characters are hardly credible. I liked Lev, the fact that he had issues communicating with people is something I understand, and if to some people that made him even more mysterious and hot, it did not do the same for me. I mean, he is hot and mysterious, but he is most and foremost one of the most boring male main characters/love interest I've ever read about. I'm not just saying that because he doesn't talk much, or show his emotions are whatever, but because even when he did, he was boring. It pains me that the only depth to this character is the love he has for his daughter. Their relationship, even if it makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable, is very strong. But that's all there is to him. Even when he declares his love to Mina, you feel as if it's just him reciting someone else's words. It just feels empty. It's a shame, he could have been such a better character is the author had taken some time to make him more human, and not just the hot/mysterious love interest she made him be.

The other characters were okay. I really like Nas, and Sasha, they're the most credible of the bunch. However, what I didn't like was the author's absolute need to reunite Mina with her real family (that conveniently owns the business just across the street from her boyfriend's), and her need to get Mina back together with her foster family. Honestly, if a woman called 14 years old me a slut or whore because her son was hooking up with me, not only would I run away, but I would never want to see her face ever again. But nooo, Mina HAS TO forgive her! Again: Not credible.

I'm giving this book 3,75/5 because I did enjoy it, even if I didn't agree with some of the author's choices. I read it til the very end, and in less than 2 days. That shows that it is a captivating story, unfortunately only carried by the main character.

To-Be-Read List of December | FGR ☕︎

Here are the books I plan on reading during the month of December.

-

-

I just finished reading Lev by Belle Aurora, and still haven't decided which book to read next. I think I'm going to wait until my finals are over on the 16th, to start Dash and Lily's Book of Dares.

Also, this list might change throughout the month depending on my mood. I might not read all the books from these list, but others. However these are the books I'm prioritizing. Furthermore, I will not be publishing reviews for all of them.
