“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope...I have loved none but you.” 😍
- Jane Austen, Persuasion.

Book Review - A Court of Mist and Fury | SBB ☕︎

A Court of Mist and Fury  by Sarah J. Maas

Summary
Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

My review

Honestly I don't have words. I don't know how I'm supposed to review this, I don't have words.
Oh wait, yes I do : OMGGGGG RHYSAAAAAAAAND ❤️❤️

So, as you could probably tell from these 2 previous sentences, this will not be a spoiler-free review. I will try to reveal as little as possible concerning the plot and intrigue, but so much changes in this book that in order for me to explain why it is amazing, I'm gonna have to spoil you guys a little.

So, ACOTAR finished, we were under the mountain, Amarantha was dead, Tamlin and the Spring Court were free (as were the other High Lords) and Feyre had been resurrected by all 7 High Lords. ACOMAF starts with Feyre back at the Spring Court, trying to live her life of future wife of High Lord whilst Tamlin tries to build back his Court. The problem is that the events from under the mountain changed many things and left our characters with pretty bad PTSD which they each deal with in different ways.

Shit happens and Feyre starts to become more and more uncomfortable with Tamlin's behaviour towards her. Our High Lord of the Night Court eventually comes to the Spring Court to make sure Feyre keeps up her part of the bargain. More shit happens with Tamlin and the Spring Court, and Feyre has to leave the Spring Court because her life is (somewhat) in danger. Here you guys, I told you I was going to try and limit the spoilers.

This book is the best continuation to an already amazing first book, anyone could have come up with. It's absolutely mind-blowing and I can't stress that enough. The plot, the subplots, the final intrigue, EVERYTHING just keeps you on the hook. I could not put this book down. This author's imaginary universe is so well thought out and executed. I do not have the words. Another thing that particularly shook me was the quality of her writing. I think what made that stick out more for me was that I listened to ACOMAF on audio-book, and that was when I realized her writing was incredibly realistic (for a fantasy novel). Everything, from the dialogues to the lengthy descriptions, showed a real effort from the author, to make it easy for the reader to imagine but also beautiful for the reader to read at loud. There is this joke circulating around instagram and tumblr that Sarah J Maas could write a dictionary and it would still be fascinating and beautiful and that is so accurate it's painful.

Once again, the characters were fucking brilliant. The new ones, the old ones ... Just marvellous. Feyre's character development is OUT OF THIS FUCKING WORLD, and more than that, it actually makes sense. Who she was in ACOTAR is not who she is in ACOMAF, partly because of the things that have happened under the mountain, but also because the realizes she's worth something and decides to fight for the greater good. I had a very lengthy paragraph in my ACOTAR review about all the things I love about Feyre, so I won't repeat them. I'll just add that I love how she is conscious of her mistakes and misjudgments and able to go back and change that. She is so much more opened minded and confident. That confidence probably comes with the fact that during this book she finds her true family and true home, it is so refreshing.

Rhysand. IDONTHAVEWORDS. Again. You should read the book just because of him. He is the perfect example that you should not judge a book by its cover. Every time you find out something about him, you think you can't love him more than you already do, and then BAM you find out something else, making you love him even more. I really liked how the author played on Rhysand and Feyre's possible romantic relationship all throughout the book, but it was never too much, never too in your face, never pushed forwards and overshadowing the real plot and intrigues of the book. And that can be a very tricky thing to do, specially when you write about a character so amazing

Tamlin. Oh Tamlin. I loved you so much so why did you have to go and break my heart ? The internet hates you and I understand them. However, I'll probably never be able to hate you. You helped Feyre in the time she needed the most, you comforted her when she was alone, loved her when she needed to be loved. You just couldn't let go. I don't blame you for that, but the actions that followed were just so fucked up. And the things we learned, really made you look like a wolf in prince charming clothing.

Now about my babies from the Inner Circle. I can't say much but sweet baby jesus. Sarah J Maas sure knows how to write about tall dark and handsome warriors. I loved Mor most of the two ladies most of the book, I feel like she was that female BFF Feyre just needed because she had been so lonely all her life, her two sisters getting along pretty well but totally putting her on the sideline. Still, around the end of the book I like Amren more and more, probably because she likes Feyre more and more. (Also, can we, for a second, talk about Rhysand's anecdote when Feyre asks him if he and Amren are a thing ? I was rolling with laughter on the floor).

Speaking of Feyre's sisters. They are probably the biggest change of all. At the beginning of ACOTAR they were pretty much to evil sisters, towards the end we sort of saw some context to their behaviour and they didn't seem as evil as in the beginning. In ACOMAF, it's a fucking train-wreck. Now I will not same anything more because this would be a really big spoiler and I don't want to ruin this for you if you haven't read the book. Let's just say Elain as a little more backbone, and Nesta is my new spirit animal. (Also totally on the Nessian ship you guys).

In all, this book as fucking great as the first one (if not more) and I can't recommend it enough. It was a lot more action-packed than the first one, but not as anguishing. It also talked a lot more about the other Courts and dealt with politics and strategy between courts, which I personally really enjoyed. The sexy times were also a nice addition, without being TMI Sarah J Maas and her swoon-worthy male characters manage to get you all hot and bothered. This is the unexpected, but perfect continuation to ACOTAR.

Just like for ACOTAR, I'm giving this book 5/5 stars and if there were more starts to give I would give them. This book is the closest thing to perfection you will ever find. Not just the story and different plots, but the universe is the kind of universe you get attached to. The kind of universe amazing fanfiction comes out of, and that's because you can see of how much work the author put into creating this world. I don't think I've ever said this before, but this universe is probably up one of my favorites, along-sides the HP universe. Chapeau bas l'artiste !

Book Haul | April 2017 | SBB ☕︎

HELLO MY LITTLE MUNCHKINS !!!
Because I seem to never update this blog, but when I do I post more than once in a day. Here are a list of the books I bought in April. Most were second-hand, becasue that's the way to go if you're a struggling college student. The more expensive books were my 2 books for uni, also because I bought them new. They're for uni but not really since I've finished my semester, they're just some reading material for me to go over during the summer vacation. I find it funny how Heir of Fire is in this list, but it's the 3rd book in the Throne of Glass series, yet I don't own the first 2 books x) Oh well. I have a problem. Also, that hardback copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is GORGEOUS, can't wait to by the next books, but they're kind of expensive. I probably should have gone with the paperback version :/ If you guys own any of these or have read them, don't hesitate to tell me in the comments :)
Peace out my peeps XOXO

WELCOME BACK MY LITTLE MUNCHKINS !!!
Just as I promised in the previous post, here is the list of the books I got during the mont of March. I have to say, I was quite proud of myself for buying fewer books than in February. And two of these are for school so yay me ! Though, I have to admit I went a little crazier in April and my wallet is really suffering from that. Anyways, someone NEEDS to keep me far away from amazon, for real. Don't forget to leave me a comment if you own any of these books, in these versions or different versions, and if you've read any of them tell me what you thought !! (also: can we take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous the Red Queen Trilogy covers are ? 😍)
